Ninety days sine die and the clock is ticking

June 30, 2013

According to referendum rules, Protect Oregon Driver Licenses will have 90 days sine die to collect the 58,142 valid signatures needed to get the SB 833 on the November 2014 ballot.  Ninety days is an incredibly short amount of time to accomplish such a feat. That is nearly 700 signatures every single day!  We intend to collect even more signatures than the requirement because of the necessary, but intense scrutiny we are likely to face at the Secretary of States office and because often times signature gatherers make mistakes causing entire sheets of signatures to be eliminated from the count.

Please take the following precautions while gathering signatures:

Make certain the first signature on the sheet is neat and written properly because it sets the tone for the entire sheet.

ASK if the signer is a registered Oregon voter and ask, just to be certain that they haven't signed the petition before.

Be certain the date is written correctly:  mm/dd/yy or July 4, 2013.

Do NOT put the day first and then the month - this will get the signature sheet eliminated from the count.

Do NOT sign the petition sheet as a circulator until you are finished collecting signatures and are ready to send it in.

Use only blue or black ink.

Send the sheets in as you fill them, or every 2 weeks.  We need to process them and would prefer to have them come in a steady stream rather than a big pile at the end.

Wear a hat, sunscreen and take fluids with you...we don't want to lose you to heat stroke!

Thank you all for all your hard work and dedication to help the Protect Oregon Driver Licenses referendum camapign.  We know there are other things you would rather be doing!

Last but not least -  The referendum is a huge financial undertaking.  Please send a contribution along with your filled signature sheets to help offset the unbelievable expenses of this project.
