PODL challenges ballot language

Protect Oregon Driver Licenses
December 20, 2013

After carefully reviewing the certified ballot title language, Protect Oregon Driver Licenses has filed a challenge to the summary text. This challenge will ensure that the language is faithful to that of SB 833, is accurate and does not mislead voters.

SB 833 has one purpose--to permit unlawfully present aliens to obtain driver licenses. However, the summary misstates the effect of the SB 833 by focusing on prohibitions to the use of the driver card found nowhere in the text of the law.

Protect Oregon Driver Licenses requests the Supreme Court to direct the Attorney General to rewrite the Summary so that only the effect of SB 833 is in the Summary, as opposed to negative inferences the Attorney General may have taken from other laws.
