Driver card bill repeal campaign releases list of supporters– including Oregon's Sheriffs and other law enforcement officials

Wednesday, May 28, 2014

The group Protect Oregon Driver Licenses, which successfully spearheaded the effort to refer the illegal-alien driver card law to Oregon's November 2014 ballot, today released a list of law-enforcement officials -- including The Sheriffs of Oregon - who support the law's repeal.

"Last spring, the Legislature passed and Gov. John Kitzhaber signed Senate Bill 833, which grants Oregon driving privileges to illegal aliens," said Cynthia Kendoll, PODL's authorized agent and statewide campaign manager. "Last summer and fall, tens of thousands of Oregonians signed veto referendum petitions to refer that law to the ballot.  And now, many of the elected officials charged with the public's safety - Oregon's sheriffs, along with many others in law enforcement, are affirming those Oregonians' judgment and calling for the repeal of illegal-alien driver card bill."

Among those who support repealing the driver-card bill are:

- The Sheriffs of Oregon Political Action Committee

- Sheriff Tom Bergin, Clatsop County

- Derek Hernandez, Western Region Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council, AFL-CIO, which represents the rank-and-file agents of the U.S. Border Patrol

- Gary "Rusty" Fleming Jr., Public Information Officer, Hudspeth County (Texas) Sheriff's Office

- Michael W. Cutler, Senior Special Agent, Immigration and Naturalization Service (retired)

- Dave Driscoll, Officer, Salem Police Department (retired)

- Duane Fletchall, Sergeant, Marion County Sheriff's Department (retired)
