Circulate Petitions for Protect Oregon Driver Licenses

Help circulate petitions for Protect Oregon Driver Licenses! Help collect petition signatures from friends, family, and others. This is actually easy and fun, since the vast majority of Oregonians very much want to see this referendum on the ballot. Carry petitions with you to meetings, events, and everywhere you go!

Help us get the required number of petition signatures to place the Protect Oregon Driver Licenses referendum (#301) on the 2014 ballot. Every signature counts!

Note that the petition simply requests Oregon to place Senate Bill 833 on the ballot so that the voters can decide for themselves whether they want to issue drivers licenses to illegal aliens.

Here are the steps to collect petition signatures:

  1. Contact us via email to obtain petitions to circulate. You can also phone us at 503 435-0141. Request the 10-line signature sheets. Please include your name and postal mailing address; also tell us how many 10 signature sheets you would like us to send to you.

You can also pick up blank petitions from us at announced events.

  2. Gather signatures from registered voters. Signatures must be in blue or black ink. Pencil is not allowed.

Here is an update on upcoming signature gathering locations. Also, if you want to help collect signatures, here are tips on where to gather signatures

  3. After you have gathered signatures on a petition, you must sign and date the petition in blue or black ink. Pencil is not allowed. You must sign and date every petition you turn in.

  4. Mail the signed petition(s) to us, not the State of Oregon. Mail signed petitions to:

    Protect Oregon Driver Licenses
    PO Box 7354
    Salem, OR 97303

  5. Stay in touch! Sign up with us to receive infrequent updates. Don't worry, your information will be kept confidential and we will only send out infrequent updates.

Notes:

  • These 10-line signature sheets must be obtained from the Protect Oregon Driver Licenses campaign. They cannot be photocopied. This is a strict rule of the Secretary of State which we must follow. If photocopied forms are used, the Secretary of State will not accept them, and the signatures on them will not likely be counted.

This may seem an overly bureaucratic requirement by the Secretary of State’s office, but it’s necessary for us to observe all the guidelines they set forth to get the benefit of all possible signatures.

  • It’s a strict requirement of the Secretary of State that the text of the bill, SB 833, be available for viewing when collecting signatures. That is the reason why the single web-based signature sheets cannot be copied and handed out to others.

  • Also, if it is taking time to completely fill a petition with signatures, don't hold out for the last signature. It is better to send in petitions as quickly as you can. We can always send you more.

  • The Secretary of State may not be able to overlook minor infractions of their rules. Signatures must be legible as well as the printed names. The Secretary of State’s office is obligated, for the protection of both sides of the issue, to be certain all rules are followed to the letter. So, let's not give them a reason to disqualify any signatures we gather.

  • Signature gatherers, please do not sign the 10 signature sheet until you have finished collecting signatures. Your signature and the date are the last things to go on the sheet.

  • Please leave blank the lower right corner space where the words "Sheet Number" appear. This space is reserved for managers' use at the end of the campaign. At that time, the managers will number all sheets prior to submission to the Secretary of State.
  • Carry a signature packet with you so that you can gather signatures wherever you go.

Remember:

  1. Only Oregon registered voters should sign the petition. They should sign the petition only one time.

  2. Remind signers to write legibly and use the same name they used when they registered to vote.

  3. If people aren't registered to vote, don't have them sign the petition. Tell them: First, get registered online, then wait three business days before signing the petition.

  4. Don't argue immigration issues with potential signers... save that for another day. If they are hesitant, simply refer them to the Protect Oregon Drivers Licenses website at www.ProtectOregonDL.org.
